Autism, or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how a person communicates, interacts, and experiences the world. In Canada, autism is understood as a spectrum, meaning that each person’s strengths, challenges, and support needs are unique. Some people may need significant daily support, while others live and work independently.
Canadian health agencies, including the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), emphasize early identification, inclusive education, and access to community-based supports to promote quality of life and participation in society for autistic individuals and their families.
